In China, there is a tradition known as kijū tenkō (喜従天降), in which spiders are seen as joyful messengers descending from the heavens. For this reason, spider webs have long been regarded as auspicious motifs. The design is also said to have been favored by geisha, as it symbolized the ability to “catch” good patrons.
Crafted from acrylic, this piece is adorned with the motif by a Kyoto maki-e artisan using a simplified maki-e technique.
Lightweight and easy to wear, it offers a graceful way to incorporate a touch of traditional Japanese artistry into casual styling.
Dimensions: approx. 7.5 cm wide × 13 cm long
